Symbolism DescriptionThe two blue stripes represent the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean (Caribbean Sea) bordering Central America, as well as the sky. They also symbolize the two former federations of Central America. The white stripe signifies peace, purity, and the land between the two oceans. The coat of arms, centered on the white stripe, includes a triangle symbolizing equality and the three branches of government, five volcanoes representing the five former members of the United Provinces of Central America, a Phrygian cap for liberty, a rainbow for peace, and 14 laurel branches for the 14 departments of El Salvador. The motto 'DIOS UNION LIBERTAD' (God, Union, Liberty) and the date of independence '15 de Septiembre de 1821' are also present.
