Symbolism DescriptionThe flag's design is based on the Pan-Arab Revolt flag. The black stripe represents the Abbasid Caliphate, the white represents the Umayyad Caliphate, and the green represents the Fatimid Caliphate or the Rashidun Caliphate. The red triangle symbolizes the Hashemite dynasty and the blood of martyrs. The white seven-pointed star within the red triangle represents the unity of the Arab peoples and also refers to the seven verses of Al-Fatiha, the first surah of the Quran.

Legal DescriptionThe flag is defined by the Constitution of Jordan. Article 4 states: 'The Jordanian flag shall be of the following form and dimensions: Its length shall be double its width. It shall be divided horizontally into three equal parallel stripes, the uppermost black, the middle white, and the lowest green. At the hoist, it shall have a red triangle, the base of which shall be equal to the width of the flag, and its height shall be half of its length. In this triangle, there shall be a white seven-pointed star, of such a size that its diameter shall be one-fourteenth of the length of the flag, and so placed that its centre shall be at the intersection of the lines bisecting the angles of the triangle, and the axis of one of its points shall be parallel to the base of the triangle.'
Description
The national flag of Jordan consists of three horizontal stripes of black, white, and green, with a red isosceles triangle at the hoist. A white seven-pointed star is placed in the center of the red triangle.
